After falling on the street a couple of times, I definitely was afraid I might fall again. The Group Fitness classes have given me much for confidence, and I've improved my balance and strength, and definitely reduced my fear of falling. The teaching is tactful, sensitive and inspiring.* -Rona, NYC

People remark about my good posture and I feel a strength to my body that I certainly did not have  before Stay in Shape's fantastic Group Fitness Classes.*-Marilyn, NYC

I can easily say working out in the Stretching Classes, dramatically changed my experience with exercise. I learned how to improve my posture and stretch my muscles without paying for a big, expensive gym or doing endless boring repetitive exercises.* -Linda, NYC

"From the first session of my Personal Training Program, 10 years ago, I've had my back, knee and shoulder "fixed." I come in with a complaint and walk out knowing how to get rid of it. It's wonderful to know that whatever physical injury I sustain, I can work on it in my training program."* -David, NYC

I really want you to know how much appreciated our session yesterday. I started to implement everything you said, starting with planning my eating today and taking healthy snacks with me to work, Then a re-vamped workout including the treadmill. Ill be watching to make sure that its ok for my knee, so far so good.*

Besides all of the practical advice you gave me, its so nice to meet someone as supportive and enthusiastic about life as you are! I'm  been looking for ways to deal with stress about my knee and other things, and like they always say takiing an action is the first step. You gave me many actions to take! Looking forward to our session and taking stretching class with you.  Thanks again and talk soon!*
-Darius F., NYC

Although I have never had weight problems, I've never spent much time exercising or doing much to actively improve my fitness. You can get away with that sometimes when you are younger, but as you age, your body is more unforgiving. I started seeing Marjorie Jaffe when I got concerned about how I was aging. There is a history of both heart disease and cancer in my family, and if I do not start taking my health seriously, I know I have a good chance of becoming another statistic. I have begun getting into shape for the first time in my life with Marjorie, and I am confident I am giving myself the best chance possible to avoid the serious illnesses that have plagued my family.*  -Doris Hill, NYC

I don't mind being old, but I definitely do not want to feel old. I get scared of how the body tends to fall apart as you get older. That seems like the worst part of aging: to no longer be able to do what you used to do. Keeping the body fit is the only thing that can fight that. I feel the benefits of my workouts here, and not just in my body. Maintaining my physical fitness keeps me sane, too. I know I have the ability to control how I age, and that gives me a great deal of joy. I look forward to my workouts. Every session gives me a higher quality of life at a point when many think that's no longer possible.*  -Robert G. NYC

I felt so silly when a friend suggested I talk to Marjorie. A personal trainer for senior citizens? Are you serious? I'm so glad I did, though. I was never really active when I was younger, but I had done some aerobics and other exercise classes with friends over the years. I don't like working out alone, and some friends of mine have been seeing Marjorie and are thrilled with the results. I can see why. I am now working out in group sessions with my friends in addition to working on individual goals. It is perfect for me. I am so grateful I found her.*  -Fred S. NYC

I'm very overweight. Topping out at almost 375 pounds, I was just embarrassed to go out in public and try to exercise. It was so painful. It felt like everyone was watching and making fun of me, and I would always give up exercising shortly after I started because of that. Marjorie Jaffe changed that by offering private sessions for me. She was so sensitive and caring, helping me begin to lose weight while respecting my fears and embarrassment. I still have a long way to go, but with Marjorie's help, I feel like I can finally do it.*
-Angie D., NYC

Before meeting Marjorie and working out with her, I couldn't walk a flight of steps. I'd wheeze and gasp my way to the top, and it felt like my heart would leap out of my chest. Now, just a few months later, my health is improving so much with Marjorie's guidance. I still wheeze a little, but I can already tell my heart is stronger than it was. I can go longer than I used to go, and I don't get myself sick in the process. My fitness classes are adding years to my life.*  -Mildred B., NYC

They say, “You are what you eat.” I had never applied that to myself, though, until I began working with Marjorie Jaffe. I have never been fat, so I just congratulated myself on my good metabolism and ate what I wanted. Then I went to my doctor and discovered that skinny does not automatically mean healthy. Even though my weight was fine, my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers were off the charts. Marjorie helped me to formulate a diet plan to get things under control, and six months later, I have my diet under control and blood values back to a safe level.*  -Terry M., NYC

I love that Marjorie helps you put together a full nutritional plan to go with the fitness training. So many exercise programs either ignore the importance of diet or just aren't set up to give adequate nutritional counseling. I am bad at knowing what to eat when working out. I go overboard with an overly rigid diet or just don't eat enough in general. I needed someone to spell it out for me and help me to understand why my eating habits were sabotaging my fitness goals. The bonus of all of this is that I am now eating a better diet than I ever have.*  -Rhonda W., NYC

I have been trying to lose weight since I was a teenager. I'm pretty positive that I've done everything out there at some point. What I never seemed to understand was the importance of a holistic approach. Looking back, I realize that food and exercise were very magical to me. I just assumed there was some illogical and unpleasant diet or workout regimen out there that was the key to successful weight loss, and I just hadn't found it yet. What I've learned here, though, is such simple and logical nutrition and fitness knowledge. Marjorie has brought it all together for me, and I am finally succeeding and having a great time in the process.*

-Brenda S., NYC

My buddy was a supplement junkie. I don't know how else to put it. I watched him spend hundreds of dollars every month on protein powders, herbs, and pills. It seemed like everybody at the gym was like that, too. Now, don't get me wrong, I want to be ripped and cut, too. It is more important to me, though, to watch what I put in my body and get fit naturally. Marjorie gets that. Her workouts are scaled to my abilities but without any of that other stuff. Instead, she helped me make some nutritional decisions to get fit without the supplements. Now, I'm getting the body I want in a way that is good and safe to me.*
-Gary L. NYC

I've never minded running or spinning my way through a workout. I've spent plenty of time walking on a treadmill and dancing to exercise DVDs. Really, I love all sorts of aerobic activities and exercise in general. I've always hated strength training, though. I know a lot of women avoid it because they don't want to be bulky, but I just don't like weight training. It is boring and unpleasant. I love my program here because it is a full-body plan that blends my strength training in with the rest of my workout.*  -Aaron A., NYC

One of the things I appreciate the most about Marjorie's approach is how she makes my progress measurable and observable. I know that everybody always says that you should only worry about how well your clothes fit and how you feel, but it is a big incentive to see your progress in a concrete way. She does an extensive evaluation when she first meets you and sets up your fitness plan, and then she evaluates and tests your progress at regular intervals after that. It shows me how far I've come and lets us see where to concentrate on next. It makes a big difference to me. I can feel myself getting fitter, and now I can see it in black and white, too.*  -Amy M., NYC

Arm fat has been my enemy throughout adulthood. No matter how hard I work or how many hours a day I work out, I could never get rid of the jiggling arms. It was just disgusting. I'd get so mad at myself, because I would work out so hard but still couldn't wear a sleeveless shirt. It was like I hadn't done anything at all. I know that sounds vain, but I want to look good and put a lot of work into doing that. I was very desperate when I called Marjorie Jaffe. She took control of my exercise routines and showed me which exercises I was missing in my routines. Now, you would not believe how toned my arms are. The rest of my body looks amazing, too. Thanks Marjorie!*  -Janet C. NYC

It feels like I'm the busiest person in the world. Between my husband, three kids, job, house work, and pets, I never have time to take care of myself. After trying several DVD workouts, I picked up the phone and called Marjorie Jaffe. I knew I was never going to be able to make it to a gym or studio, and she was able to help. She set up a series of in-home sessions with me. I'm still busy all the time, but now I'm also taking care of myself and reaping the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. The time I invest with Marjorie is invaluable. My workout time gives me so much energy and pride in myself. Thank you, Marjorie!*
-Nancy F., NYC

I am currently under medical management for Type 2 Diabetes. Due to complications from the disease, I have had to approach exercise cautiously. My doctor has encouraged me to begin a gentle fitness routine. After looking around, I decided to come here because of the individualization of my fitness plan and the emphasis on fitness being a whole body experience. I didn't really look at it that way when I was first diagnosed, but then it all made sense. I was overwhelmed at first because it seemed like it was going to be so much work to deal with dietary and activity restrictions. It isn't here, though. Everything has been easy to follow and easily changed if needed.*  -Brian L. NYC

I don't like “huffing and puffing” when I exercise, and that seems to be required by so many exercise programs. My program with Marjorie is just as challenging as those workouts, but it is much more comprehensive and gentler. I love yoga and Pilates, and my workout plan includes a generous amount of both. I feel both fit and refreshed after my sessions with Marjorie. She proves that exercise does not have to hurt to be effective.*  -Brendon P., NYC

I have suffered with chronic back problems and a pinched sciatic nerve for years. Although I knew that losing weight and getting into shape were the keys to making the pain go away, I didn't know how to go about it. My mobility was limited, and exercising hurt. Since beginning with Marjorie Jaffe, though, I am finally getting relief. She is very in tune with my limitations. I'm making great progress in strengthening my back and overcoming the pain. I have progressed enough to not need the pain medication I've relied on for over ten years.*  -Bernard R. NYC

I was active in several sports when I was younger and remain an active cyclist. However, the random opportunities for pick-up games of basketball and other physical activities diminish as you get older. I came here just wanting to find ways to stay active. Marjorie's program for me focuses on keeping me fit and limber as I age. As long as I keep in shape, I can jump at any opportunity I get to work out with friends or just get out and have fun.*  -Jason Y. NYC

I've played softball since I was a little kid. I'm never going to be a star athlete, but I love the sport. I continue to find outlets to compete as I get older, but my body doesn't always agree with me. Keeping in shape for a sport requires more than just general exercising. With Marjorie's planning and guidance combined with my hard work, I have greatly improved my strength and coordination. I am still competitive even in my thirties, and I feel half my age when I get out there and play.  -Billy C., NYC

Two years ago, I was in a serious car accident. I spent several weeks in the hospital recovering from broken bones and other injuries. When I got out, my injured legs were still really tight and stiff. Physical therapy helped, but the ligaments and tendons had not recovered like I had expected. I had lost so much strength in my legs, and it had dramatically affected my fitness. I called Marjorie. Her caring attitude and extensive experience allowed her to accurately gauge my capabilities and devise a program to regain my strength and fitness. The pain in my legs is almost gone, and I am walking better than I thought I ever would. I owe my recovery to Marjorie.*  -Dana D., NYC

Marjorie Jaffe's routines helped me gain core strength. I knew that working out my core would make my stomach look trim, but I had no idea how much impact it would have on my posture. I feel like a ballerina now, gliding around with more grace than I've ever had. I stand tall and proud, just like I feel. I love it!*
-Susan D., NYC

I look so hot! It is so exciting to look as good as you did when you were in your twenties. I had kind of let myself go while I was raising my family. My husband still thought I was sexy, but I didn't feel sexy. Working out with Marjorie has been a complete makeover to my life. I didn't realize that I was holding back on life because I wasn't comfortable with how I looked. Now that I like how I look, I am getting more confident and adventurous. It has improved all areas of my life. My workouts have become vital to my body and spirit. I look good, and I feel good.*  -Lilly H., NYC

I wasn’t athletic as a kid, and my sedentary work as an analyst has done nothing to improve my physical fitness. As I neared fifty, I knew I should commit myself to an exercise program, but what kind? Then I discovered Marjorie Jaffe’s Back-in-Shape studio. Marjorie’s emphasis on the needs of each student, and on stretching and strengthening exercises that addressed their particular problems, appealed to me immediately. That’s why, more than twenty years later, I’m still there – and benefiting from Marjorie’s insights and skills as an exercise teacher.*  -Martin Schaeffer, NYC Finance

If every man my age did your exercises he'd be healthy" Dr. George Gorham (77) said to Jaffe. Gorham is claiming a resurged sexual vigorand has lost 1 1/2 inches off his waist since starting with Jaffe in January of this year. Children's book author Jim Giblin (69) who had to have hip surgery, claims that Jaffe's Muscle Memory Method has "got me walking great again". For the once active older man, like Alan Siegel (67) who played basketball at Cornell University in his prime, “Marjorie’s Muscle Memory Method has helped relieve a lot of the aches and pains in my back and my hips and has helped me tap back into the athletic spirit and ability that I once had. If the general population were fortunate enough to take advantage of a program such as Back in Shape, the 20% of people with back problems quoted in the recent AARP article, could avoid their pain. Reading “Get your Back in Shape” or “The Muscle Memory Method”, by Marjorie Jaffe could also help.*  -Susan L. Friedman, Ph.D., NYC Retired Math Professor

Just keeping my toes down, shoulders back and head lifted, as Marjorie has taught me, keeps me walking with security and confidence.* -Eve Paul, NYC. Retired lawyer for Planned Parenthood

I was falling into my bones, but as soon as I met Marjorie, she knew just what to recommend so I could feel straight and tall and energetic.* -Suzanne Bohning, NYC. Business woman
