This is very motivational. As you're doing something for yourself, you'll feel better about yourself and take pride in your actions.  You will not react to getting older by just sitting down, but will walk miles and miles to keep your energy and joy alive.

It feels so much better to move, stretch and bend without pain "like when we were young(er)." At Stay in Shape, our Stretching Classes, you'll learn how to keep your body functioning physically for a long time.  You'll do exercises to maintain  joint mobility and stretch muscles in order to keep your bodies flexible and comfortable.
  • Healthy joints enable us to move our necks, spine, arms, wrists, fingers, legs, ankles, toes and even our mouths.
  • Your body type, muscle conditioning, genetic background, diet, stress levels all affect your flexibility.
  • Your joints can ache from incorrect or over usage. And, flexibility often corresponds to your age level, but, not always.
  • If you feel you need to stretch more than you used to, you can do something about staying flexible and stretching by participating in our Flexibility Classes.

The Muscle memory Method Fitness Book by Marjorie Jaffe
Classes are Based on Marjorie's book, The Muscle Memory Method.
We teach the Muscle Memory Method where you use everything you learned in your Stretching Classes throughout the day.  After three weeks, your new Muscle Memory habits overtake your old Muscle "mindless" ones, and you look and feel much better.

Exercise must never be boring. Because we do an enormous variety of exercises, it never is in our group training classes.  There are many different ways to tone and shape muscles with the "looking better/feeling better" result.  And when you understand what you're doing and your mind to body connection is developed; exercise becomes interesting and is motivational.

There are situations when a personal training session is necessary where we'd focus on your individual issues such as curvature of the spine or long history of back pain. But for most people, a Group stretching class does the trick. 
Everyone needs to keep their muscles stretched.  And with those stretched muscles, the joints remain flexible. Muscle stretching keeps a fluid motion in the joint.  All of our Flexibility Classes work the joints, by working the muscles surrounding each joint, not the joint itself.  Joints must never be stiffened during exercise, or during all other times.

One of the biggest values of our Flexibility and Stretching classes is that you can become your own personal trainer once you're familiar with our method. Common joint problems can result from the everyday miss-use. You'll remind yourself to soften, not lock your knees or elbows; you'll remember to let go of tightness in your neck and shoulders; you'll know how to relax and lessen the tensions in your life.
